After reading the Fifty Shades of Grey series, I was pretty turned on. But the writing, let's face it, was totally amateur and that really bugged me. It made getting through the series a complete chore. If I were to do it over again, I would go with this series [The Crossfire series] instead, beginning with Bared To You by Sylvia Day. I loved it.
Her language is vivid and sensual. Whenever I pick up a book, I never know how it's going to go... will I finish it in a few days or will I be hacking away at it for months? This book I finished in less than 36 hours. That may be a record, even for me.
While Bared To You is an erotic novel, it's not a BDSM novel, like Fifty Shades was (although it does contain some elements.) The storyline is also much more believable, which makes the whole thing more enticing, in my opinion. The main character, Eva, has just moved to NYC from SoCal and she is beginning her first job.
She lives with her friend, Cary, who is a male model and also bisexual. From the beginning I realized that Eva and Cary have a special, supportive relationship. It's evident from the get-go that Eva is hiding a secret--something dark that has happened in her past--that she is still struggling with. She bumps into Gideon right in the beginning of the book, while clocking her walk to her new job.
Sparks fly between the two and mind blowing sex is definitely on the menu. I love the use of language Day uses in the book--it's not too repetitive, which is impressive because there ARE only so many words to say "vagina" or "penis" and "sex." One thing I love about this book is how much Gideon likes to give oral sex to Eva. For some reason, I found this intriguing and sexy. I don't know if it speaks more to the author's personal preference, but it's not something that I feel is often written about, so I enjoyed that aspect of the book.
Both Gideon and Eva have demons in their closet, and they struggle to define what their relationship will be. This book is filled with wonderfully explicit encounters, enthralling storyline, and it made me keep coming back for more! The quality of the writing is great and I am really excited to read the second book in the series, Reflected in You.
If you are looking for a hot erotic novel to sink your teeth into, consider diving into Bared To You and the Crossfire series. It will get your temperature rising and your heart a-thumping!

Omg, I also got to this series after 50 Shades, and I love it. I read the first book and had two days to wait for the second one to come out, and it couldn't come fast enough. And now, waiting on the third, it's driving me crazy!!! I should probably just reread the first two in preparation for the last one!
ReplyDeleteOh I know, I can't wait for the third book to come out!!! I am a fan of re-reading books myself. I have re-read some of my favorites up to four times!
