1 Billion Rising Against Violence

I want to take a moment to talk about something important to me. Violence effects women all over the world. Whether at home or abroad, whether you are a man or woman, this issue is likely one that has effected someone you know. This Valentine's Day, I want to ask you to take a stand with me and rise up. 1 Billion Rising is a group that seeks to to put an end to violence against women by rising up.

Did you know that one in three women worldwide will be a victim of either rape or physical violence? One in three is a third of the population of women...that means that one in three of the women you know and love have been a victim of violence in some form. When it's put that way, it's a scary proposition.

Just because we live in a modernized world doesn't mean that these things don't happen, and one of the biggest things that we can do is to join together. Silence is a killer. Silence breeds shame and shame breeds silence. As women, we need to be united against violence. We have to begin to break the chain.

One way that women are doing this across the world is by dancing. 1 Billion Rising is trying to get one billion women [and the men who love us] dancing on Valentine's day in an effort rise against the violence.

One thing I firmly believe in is the ability of positive energy. That is why I love the concept of one billion people dancing to end violence against women worldwide. It's a giant bundle of wonderfully positive energy being emitted out to the universe--and that makes my soul smile!
