Meet The Chickens of Downton Abbey!!!!

Our chickens have finally arrived, and as you might have guessed, this is their big debut! We weren't sure if we would be able to tell them apart or not, so picking names we thought might be a little tricky. For this reason, we have settled on calling them "The Chickens of Downton Abbey."

Since we are big fans of the show, and there are no shortage of ladies in the Abbey, we figured this would work out perfect. There's Lady Mary, Lady Edith, Lady Sybil (we expect she'll die, but don't ask us which one she is!), Baby Sybil, Lady Grantham, Anna, O'Brien (she was pretty rude at first, but has some redeeming qualities we guess), Mrs. Patmore, Daisy, and Ethel (she's a whore, but we love her anyway).

This is a rather serious chicken pic if you ask me. Sort of a fighting Irish face...

This was the first chicken to figure out how to use the roost. Therefore, she rules the roost.

Here the ladies are enjoying their first taste of organic chicken feed. Again, we have one chicken leaping out in front of the others. I think we've definitely found our Alpha Chicken...I wonder if that is a real thing? I do know that pecking order is a real thing, so, we'll call her "top pecker." Hehe.

She's a beaut, isn't she?

Here is a shot of Oscar at the door of the pen. We were unable to tell if he was happy or agitated about the new additions. What I can tell you is that he spent the better portion of the afternoon whining and trying to get into the pen. Then we brought him inside and he whined some more. He has reported it's going to take a little getting used to.

So here they are: The Chickens Of Downton Abbey!!!

They are really settling in nicely and we are all getting nice and cozy with one another. The first night of putting the chickens to bed was quite an adventure...and by "adventure" I mean that it was literally the hottest day of the year and I was in my underwear and a pair of rubber boots chasing ten chickens around a small coop. They had me pretty bested for the better part of a half an hour. However, the second night I got a little smarter, and used Oscar to run around the coop and corral those ladies into their hen house. Nine minutes. Take that ladies!

I can't wait to keep you posted on all the goings on of our new little flock!!!
